Since their formation in 1996, the band has been a cornerstone of the American roots scene. Originally performing as The Unknown Blues Band, the group’s prestigious pedigree was established by founding members Warren Haynes (of Gov’t Mule and The Allman Brothers Band) and Rick Gerken (former keyboardist for Sweethearts of the Rodeo). Under the leadership of drummer and vocalist Al Lauro, the band evolved into the "Heavyweights," a moniker that reflects their powerful, high-energy fusion of blues, zydeco, and southern rock.
